Hardwood Maintenance

Keep your hardwood clean with our expert tips

Cleaning Hardwood Floors

Choosing a new hardwood floor is one of the best ways to add luxury and value to your home. But, in order to truly reap all of hardwood’s benefits, you need to be sure to maintain it. Fortunately, we at Carpet One Gainesville have some recommendations to help you maintain your hardwood floors.

How to Clean Hardwood

You should definitely sweep your hardwood floor every day to remove dust and dirt from the surface. Dust and dirt can sometimes damage the surface finish and/or cause scratching. Every one to two weeks, it might be beneficial to mop the floor using a dry mop. This helps remove anything from the surface that remains after daily sweeping.

If, however, you ever realize that you cannot remove the dullness and scratches from the surface, you should consider hardwood refinishing.

Hardwood Tips and Tricks

In addition to routine cleaning, there are some tips and tricks that will help you keep your hardwood floors looking as good as new. Here are some of the most important ones:

-avoid walking on your hardwood floor with dirty or wet shoes (you should consider using an area rug where people can clean their shoes)

-do not drag furniture over the floor’s surface because this could cause scratching

-try to limit direct sunlight by using window treatments

-keep the room temperature consistent to prevent the planks from expanding

-be careful with liquids (such as drinks) near or around your hardwood floor
